Eye Strain from new Tv...is this normal?

Evening

I bought a nice new LG 42 inch LED today, very nice it is too! I have however had eye strain from using it with the xbox tonight, my old tv was a 32 inch LCD. Is it normal to expect some eye strain to start with? Im sat about 8 feet from the TV if that helps!

Thanks!

    Err. Yes!

You're used to a 32 now you have to get used to using something 10 inches bigger

Make sure you take regular breaks.

Thanks Steve, puts my mind at rest! Its a superb TV, who can complain at a 42" 1080P LED tv for £499 :)

oooh...well......depends how picky you are :P.

How far are you sitting away from the tv and how high do you have the backlight? Because if it's too bright, and/or too close that'd be why your eyes don't like it.

My friend has a 42" tv less than 3 ft from his sofa and I find it unwatchable.

If you are watching HD, you need to be about 6 ft away; if SD about 10 ft.

Sitting closer does take a bit of getting used to, but is worth the effort !

Im about 8 feet away so not too close!! Backlight is level 55 out of 100, could always lower it a bit and see if that helps. Hoping its just my eyes getting used to the bigger/brighter screen!

I just had a look at the settings HDTV test used for this review, http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/lg-42le5900-37le5900-32le5900-20101219960.htm
They had the backlight at 36. I'm not saying that will be right for your TV, but, if nothing else, it gives you a starting point.
It may look dull and lifeless at first, so give it some time to get used to it.
