Hi,
I have just recently turned 18, and i got a call from Lloyds TSB urging me to make an appointment as i need to change my account from an 'Under 19's account' to a Regular 'adult' account.
Surely i don't actually to switch until around my 19th Birthday? Or does anybody know any different?
Is it just a way to fob me off with an overdraft and more oppurtunities to charge me? Id rather stay put in my under 19's account.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thankyou, Natalie x

Most of the time the accounts for under 18/19 pay better interest than 'adult' accounts and the only thing they can offer you would be overdrafts/loans etc. as you say. So unless you have a burning desire to go down a path not reccomended by most of the people on here I wouldn't say it's worth it. You certainly don't sound as if you're unhappy with your account as it is and i'd guess your bank would be taking this as an opportunity to set you on the road to debt, which is money money money for them.
Stick with your instincts and if they really want to change your account they can do that for you without you having to go in and authorise it, as long as you're of the age for the account to be changed.0 -
Thankyou very much.
Looks like i'll stick to my guns

Isn't it illegal to refuse someone an account based on age under the new age discrimination laws?
For example, them making you change the terms of your account because of your age must be discriminatory now..
