Bank cancelled debit card in error

Hubby phoned my bank tonight (of which we have a joint account but he's never really had anything to do with the account) to see whether they could transfer all his bills and accounts over to this joint account.
Anyway, long story short, he had to go through a load of security questions again - ended up deciding to think about it - later on I toddled off to the shop to get to the till to have my card declines twice  so I went over to the cash machine instore and it retained my card!!!!!
I knew I had money in my account so phoned the bank to find out why the machine had kept it - they thought it had been reported lost/stolen which it clearly hadn't. They have admitted it's entirely their fault - but am I wrong to think I may be entitled to some sort of compensation? It's a real hindrance to not have my card - the weekend is coming up, need groceries, petrol etc and can only do it by prior arrangement by the bank
Not a happy bunny
I'd like to see thoughts on this though - am I being unreasonable?

Always worth having a back up card with another bank/b.s with £100 in it in case of emergencies like this.I have a deep burning indifference0

You should get the new card quite quickly - my FD credit card chip was damaged and I had a new one the next day (I requested it at 11am though), so you should have it pretty soon.
I would have thought they would sort anything pretty quickly.
And finally if you want to transfer accounts to them, login to internet banking then click Transfer your banking and download the form.0 -
Yes it is - in an ideal world!! I wish to god I had done that as I do have a savings account with them - but no card for that one..... Will bear in mind for future tho, thanks!0

I do hope they send the card thru quickly - I have end of year exams next week and Uni is an hour away......
Thanks for your post0 -
You should transfer some money into a friend or family members account and ask them to withdraw it for you.
Plus it may be an idea to open a back up account for any other future issues you may stumble across.0 -
Just ask FD to transfer the money to your husbands account and get him to withdraw it.0
