Ubuntu animation program?

I'm trying to make a short video up from still pictures I've altered in Gimp.

Ideally I'm looking for a frame by frame video editing suite to allow me to add a sound track and then chose from my set of images a frame to match.

Is there a simple way of doing this?

I have a Windows PC if I need to get some software for that.

I've never used it but Avidemux sounds like it can do what you want

ffmpeg will convert a sequence of still images (e.g. jpegs) into a motion video. It's easy to use.. You can use a wildcard on the command line to pick up all your images for input..

    ffmpeg -r 10 -b 1800 -i %03d.jpg test1800.mp4

-r sets the rate of frames per second
-b sets the video bit rate.
    -i is the input filename(s)

    man ffmpeg for the rest..

    Simple HOWTO at http://electron.mit.edu/~gsteele/ffmpeg/

Then as Darksun has suggested, you could use avidemux to mux in a sound track..

Have you tried turning your animation into an animated GIF file using GIMP?

It'll be about a minute long, so I'm not sure a gif will be suitable, but I'll try the others, thanks folks.
