    I've just finished doing this:

Download a 30 day trial of corel paint shop pro x.
Open a decent quality photo into it (3mp+?).
Ensure the photo is 6:4 ratio.
Add a black border (if you like) using the add border option.
Theres a save as tile option, split the image into 20x20 images - so, 400 images in total.
Get them printed for £4 (400 x 1p) and you've got yourself a 10' x 6.6' poster (With a little sticking)... or, if you like a giant jigsaw.

For the more advanced out there:

I've also used the batch processing option in PSP to resize the individual images to 1200x800 (to smoth the rather large pixels) and then overlay the original image over each of the 400 images to make it a bit more interesting. I used 15% opacity for this.

Great as a present for kids?

I've not uploaded them or received them back yet, so I can't say if it works.

Maybe someone out there can help me now... I want to download a high-quality set of tiles from google maps and do a similar thing (another 10' x6.6' poster). There is a single program out there that will do this "google maps image downloader", but it's $25.... I would really like something for free!.. or if someones got a spare registration key handy?...

Snapfish now offer free unlimited photo storage, though you need to make at least one order every year - details: click here & here. Apparently even a single print order is fine, which works out to £1.09 including delivery at current prices. So their unlimited online photo storage works out to just £1.09 a year. G

P.S. Thanks for this post & also your one at the Free online prints offers thread - I've now included it in the main list :).

Sorry, also meant to add Streamload/Mediamax which offers 25Gb free storage. The main restriction/disadvantage is a 1Gb download limit per month. Use their free MediaMax XL software for much quicker downloads & uploads.

Their support is excellent - though I only have a free account they answered three queries I sent them within 2 days! G

Hige thanks to the OP, First time I have used any online printing service. Price wise it has saved me a fortune. Ordered 400 pics including delivery for under £8.00 . Usually I pay £5.00 for 50.

    Thanks

In case people get caught out like me, My bank charged me extra for paying Pixum. I was charged £1.50 from Halifax as my card was used in German and the funds that Pixum taken where in Euro's

So remember and add your bank's fee when comparing prices

    IMPORTANT:
Please note that the British pound prices are only indicated for your convenience.
All invoices are in EURO. Due to exchange rate fluctuations, you may be billed a slightly
different amount than the British pound prices above mentioned.

  • Bumping this up one last time since the unlimited 1p prints (6x4) offer ends today, 31st January, at midnight.

Good point made above that the payment seems to be made in Euros and so your card issuer may charge you an additional fee for the transaction. Still, even with the card surcharge and shipping my order came to under 2p a print in total. Payment is only by Visa, MasterCard, or Amex.

Note also that the 20 free prints are deducted automatically for new customers and on Pixum's site there's a code for another free 20 prints on top of that!

Trying to use the Easyprint, but it should be called won't print. It keeps on coming up with ErrorCode 834. I emailed them yesterday and got no response so it looks like I might miss out on this. I'm not sure if I can be bothered after getting together all the photos to do it again, and I'm not sure if I've got time.

    Argh!!!

    Update 23:12:

The Java update does not seem to be working properly either. I suspect their site may be overloaded. Still not impressed. Currently showing as 9% 11/211, but it has gone up and down, and has been going for nearly two hours. I know upload speeds are slower but broadband should not be anywhere near this slow. Very disappointing.

Well it may not be midnight here, but it is now midnight Central European Time, and they think it is all over. The price list has reverted and the photos that would have cost me £8.91 now are priced at £35.75.

I know the lesson is don't leave it to the last minute....

We'll see what happens when and if their customer service people respond....

I think that they offered me a deal, I took it, they should honour the deal.
