Dairy (and other) farmers are not forced to do that line of work. I have had sh8te jobs, but if they were sh8te AND I was making a LOSS then I would do something else-simple. I listen to Farming Today every morning and 9 times out of 10, it features moaning farmers-its too dry, wet, windy, cold, hot..........we don't get enough money, recognition etc, we're making a loss (?)-If you're making a loss then do something else. I live in a very rural/agricultiral area, and you suggest to a farmer that they try working in a shop or an office they blanche at the thought. OK so its a hard mucky job, but I really am sick of hearing them moaning on every morning-perhaps I should listen to another radio station.......rant over.

I was shocked by the price rise in Tesco and disappointed the OP got such grief. This is a moneysaving website so most people are looking for the best deal and price is what matters to them.

Tesco is now more expensive than lots of other places. Its helpful to know that so we can all make the choices that suit us. If everyones prices were similar then this would not be news - the retailer not the consumer sets the price.

No-one has mentioned that we should all be paying more for our milk to be delivered by the milkman - we have robbed him of his livelihood too. Again that is a choice that many made because we wanted to pay less.

Bottom line is milk is quite variable in price at the moment - Tesco is quite expensive and there are cheaper places to buy it.

Be nice to all moneysavers - because ultimately posts on this forum help us all.

I don't agree with Tesco's ethics on milk prices, plus my husband really doesn't like the taste of their milk (even when blind tested he could tell which was tesco's) , we buy Duchy organic milk from Waitrose, Waitrose pay their dairy farmers a better price for their milk.

"Produced from Ayrshire cows on the Duchy Home Farm at Highgrove, Gloucestershire and Blannicombe Farm, Devon."

Cash-strapped farmers, eh?! That one is Prince Charles. Given the economic climate, His Royal Highness should be giving his Highgrove produce to charity, just to show that "we are all in this together".

Why go to Tesco and pay their inflated prices. Aldi 79p for 2l Scottish milk and Lidl 89p for 4pts Scottish milk.

Was absolutely shocked by this price hike today.

In getting the milk for work today. On Monday, a 4-pinter was 1.25. Today, a 4-pinter was 1.49. 24p!!!!! a 1p, 2p or pennies more price rise- fair enough- they're a business but 24p!!!!!!!

refused to get this. Am not going to tesco for this again

The price increase does seem disproportionate to the additional cost they have agreed to pay their milk suppliers for a 6 month period however it is no great surprise that the customer has ended up paying the extra 4p per litre or so that they agreed to give the farmers.
The fact that Tesco are currently receiving lot's of good publicity for being the supermarket chain who is paying the highest price to UK farmers for milk ever (well at least until the 6 month trial is over when they will probably go back to paying less than production cost but still charge the customers the same) but in fact their customers are paying for them to do this & they are simultaneously profiteering with the disproportionate price increases really is taking the p*** a bit.
