[QUOTE=@Giddytimes I know I only have to pay for myself, but there's no way I could afford £50 at all, we really are living hand to mouth right now between bills, saving and other expenses. So anything that expensive is out for me[/QUOTE]

That wasn't meant to sound how it came out! Sorry.

50 quid is a lot for me at the moment too, I just thought you were thinking you'd have to pay for the whole thing.

Perhaps MIL will pay for your spa day too if she's so keen and you explain you can't afford it with the wedding? Last Minute quite often do 241 promotions so it needn't even cost her anymore.

If you start saving £1 a week, by next year you'll have £50 for a spa - simples!

I just went out for a Chinese and a couple of drinks with a small group of friend & family. I didn't want a big night on the town, L-plates affair, didn't have much money (or think anyone else had) to do an event (like a Spa, paintballing etc) and lots of people were spread around the country, pregnant, newborns etc which would have made organising a nightmare!

Only do what you want to do. If it really annoys her tell her to organise one for the family & your BMs (BBQ at home, afternoon tea or something) - keep her off your back, but not a big, expensive shindig for loads of people...

Thanks for the replies guys :) got quite a few there!

@MrsAtobe that's not a bad idea I can put that to her next time she mentions it and see how that goes down, she might accept it.

@Giddytimes I wouldn't expect her to pay for it, but the lastminute.com thing might be something to look at if she's insistent, thanks!

@RainbowDrops yeah I could save £1 a week, but I'm not willing to spend £50 on something when it could go on bills, wedding or debts. I just would feel like I'm wasting that money instead of putting it on something productive or useful.

@Kittendreich a BBQ or something could be good, the PIL2b have a big garden etc so could have something like that for a few people :)

OP I dont think you are weird. I dont want a hen night either. I would happily have a nice meal with some friends (male and female) but definately dont want the stereotypical hen night. Can think of nothing worse! I would just explain to her that its not really your type of thing and that maybe you could go out for a meal or something before the wedding.

    Hello there!

I am not big on the idea of a hen do myself either (wedding is July 2012), however I have come to the happy conclusion with my friends that we will have a pre wedding gathering (note not a hen night, it will be around 2-3pm), not sure where it will be but the plan at the moment is a bbq and some drinks, that way people can make what they want of it, but to me I am making it clear that it is just a gathering, people can bring their own food and drink, I will provide the garden, I don't know if something like that might be a way forward? If you don't have a garden you could always go to a park or the beach?
