Hi MoneySavingNewbie

It’s LV= here. I’m sorry to hear that you were told that LV= would not insure you when you exchanged – it is actually our standard practice is to insure new owners from the point of exchange. I can’t comment on your particular case as I don’t have all the details but please would you email me at pressoffice@lv.com with your details and I will look into this for you?

How impressive is this response?! I'm currently a LV= customer for the contents of my rented house, and in the process of moving, so it's very reassuring to know I can 'upgrade' my insurance with LV= when the time comes. I purposefully chose LV= since although they weren't the best quote for contents, they gave me the best quote for buildings and contents at my new house. I'm really glad I made the decision, not just based on price, but also on the quick and helpful response provided by LV= :T
• Many thanks to one and all from your comments and advice. In particular, I'd like to second Superbabe612's championing of the reply from LV's press office - a touch of class and no mistake. Whoever you are, i'm very grateful to you for your offer of help.

Thankfully, further investigations are no longer required. After discussing with LV again, it seems the matter perhaps wasn't explained to us as best as it might have been. (On reflection I think the confusion on the customer service representative's part may have arisen from a belief we were asking for insurance with immediate effect rather than specifically the point of exchange.) Anyway, LV later agreed to provide my solicitors with a letter to confirm they would be insuring from point of exchange, and this sufficed for the purpose. So much so we ended up exchanging today! :) So, drama over.

A happy ending for once.....

Good, i was a little surprised at the response as reported by OP - but I have heard people say that kind of thing before about insurers. I was concerned because I have my motor insurance with LV and have always found them very good and efficient.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.
