Alliance & leicester accounts

Can someone help me? If you withdraw off your card at the counter do you get a receipt for your transaction? The account is a direct premier current account. The account is my mother's so i don't know myself. My mother believes that there have been 2 unauthorised withdrawals which has triggered overdraft charges when there was not enough money in to cover a direct debit. She swears she has never been given receipt for withdrawals, only for cash deposits. She has not lost her card and she has never used an atm to withdraw cash, only at the counter. What should i do?
If i have helped, use the thanks button!

In my branch it is usually "would you like a receipt for the withdrawal" ie offered but not automatically given.

I would get her to query the amounts and dates. Were they withdrawn from the usual branch. The account has a minimum over the counter cash withdrawal of £250 so is that the amount of each one or are the amounts possibly charges for withdrawing small amounts.

31.4.1 ............. If you hold a Premier Direct Current Account you will be unable to withdraw less than
£250 cash per day at a Branch.

Looking at the t&c's it seems that there is no charge for small withdrawals ..... you just can't do it  but it looks like you may be able to withdraw £250 then go back and withdraw £20 the same day. I also believe that the cashiers can override that in exceptional circumstances ie when my card had been blocked for exceeding the daily use limit and I needed £90 to tax a car.

She should telephone A&L and query the transactions; the telephone operator should be able to tell where the withdrawals took place and that will clarify if it's not her branch (in which case it might be fraudulent) or it's her branch (in which case she might have forgotten the transactions). Then if she thinks it's fraudulent she needs to report it as such.

If it's genuine, presumably the branch will have signed withdrawal slips to show who made the withdrawal.

One small problem, her english isn't very good, and my voice is a little deep to pretend to be her! She swears she never went into an A&L branch in October when the 2 transactions were made, one of 200 and one of 300 in the space of 5 days. Last time i went into the branch the staff weren't the most helpful, saying that we would have query everything on the phone...

Get her to agree to register her account online and let you use the login, password etc. Do it for her and you can see all her transactions. I do this with my 86 year old mother's account and show her where her money has gone every month (she is meant to get a Lloyds TSB paper statement but doesn't).

The problem with the above is that cash withdrawals at branches are shown online as "CASH WITHDRAWAL ON 07DEC" - with no reference to location.

You need to telephone to find out where the transaction was undertaken. But if she visits the branch, they could telephone on her behalf and find out the details she requires - best to go when they are not too busy to get best co-operation, I am sure.
