What drugs are you on? why oh why are your kids and you in danger if you rent council property....you really are a mrs bucket...get off your cloud and come into the real world..some of the biggest scoundrels live in private houses and some of the nicest people you can meet live in council houses... and the other way round....you have come across as someone who tried to keep up with the jones but could not and can not afford it...
Thanks Tidydan24 for leaping to my defence!
Geoffky, if you re-read my post it says 'I refused to rent a cheaper property in a disreputable area', regardless of whether it was private or social housing. I would have welcomed the opportunity to pay half as much rent for a council house in the area where I live, but the only housing available to me was a 2 bedroom flat 10 miles away from my children's school.
I was merely empathising with the OP about not wanting to compromise on the size or location of a rental property to save money.
Rather than 'Keeping Up Appearances' my preferred TV programme would be 'Location Location Location'0 -

But if this has led to you becoming bankrupt so maybe moving ten miles and starting the children at a new school would have been a better strategy? I know it's tough but continuing to spend more money than you have is always going to end in disaster.
There's some very presumptive people on here! I went bankrupt after being conned by my now ex-husband into funding his business with personal loans and credit cards in my name. He refused to leave the house so I took my children and rented a house. He sacked me from my job in his business for which I successfully sued him for unfair dismissal. He then took my car back that he'd agreed to pay for and stopped paying child maintenance. THAT'S why I went bankrupt. I moved away from his village back to my hometown (and closer to my job) to get my children into a better school and a safer area, where I have cleared my credit file, saved enough for a deposit on a house which I am now buying, and looking forward to a positive future.
So much for trying to help the OP!0
