Spray painting kitchen units

I have some existing Shaker-style kitchen cabinets in good condition, and would like to add to them (to put 2 larder units and link piece over an american fridge freezer). Unfortunately, the range is now unavailable (MFI).
To get round this problem, I thought of getting a few bits from another supplier with a similar style, and sprat painting the existing cabinets.
Has anyone done this, or is it a false economy and I'd be better getting a brand new kitchen sorted out?

A friend of mine makes (expensive) kitchens for a living. He finishes quite a few of them in spray paint. Usually just in primer so that the customer, or their interior designer, can finish them to the correct colour scheme.
I don't see why you couldn't do it just as well. You would need to make sure the existing cabinets were thoroughly degreased before painting.0 -
Preparation is everything, make sure ALL the surface is degreased.
Sand, prime (using melamine primer if your units are faced with same), sand and undercoat.
Run a tack cloth over the unit, then you should be ready to paint a colour coat.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z # 40 spanner supervisor. No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.Only after the last tree has been cut down. Cabinet doors are easy to take off so i think i'd be tempted to paint them outside to save you having to cover the kitchen against overspray.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I've just bought a replacement door for my 10 yr old MFI kitchen from this ebay seller

worth a look? It seems that some of the Howdens range matches ex MFI designs too.
