Santander (A&L) technical problems?

Is anyone having issues with their available balance on Alliance & Leicester accounts today?

I paid for train tickets yesterday morning and yesterday evening (no I am not going mad, I bought the tickets last night for this morning) at a train station at terminal that I know authorises in real time.

During the day yesterday I checked my online account and it showed the balance available reduced by the amount of the transaction I did in the morning; but when I checked my account this morning the balance available was no longer taking it into account.

Have Santander changed the goalposts to entrap people into thinking they have more funds than they really have?

There could be a number of explanations for this, the most likely being that the train company has quickly claimed the money and it has been taken off your actual balance. Or it could be that the train company has asked Santander to remove the amount set aside for some reason. Santander, or indeed anyone offering debit card facilities, can't just decide to remove an amount set aside arbitrarily.

Whatever other horror stories you have heard about this toy town bank, this is one which probably can't be pinned on them. Unless, of course, they have made an almighty !!!!-up - and that remains a possibility.

Best bet would be to contact the train company and Santander to clarify.

Do you have the debit card with the embossed numbers ? If so this is perfectly normal.
