Question about an old lady...

We have an old lady - Border Collie - she has suffered from strokes in the past but always recovered until this time. She is still finding it hard to walk and has lost control over her bowels (this has gotten better though) ...
would it be kinder to let her go to sleep? or is there anything else we could do for her to try help her recover again...

Sorry to say, but the vets is the best person/people to ask.
No-one on this website or any other can advise you about it as they have never seen your dog.
Sorry your dog is so sick.2 angels in heaven :A0 -

I agree with the above post only the vets can inform you of what's best, i would push for some answers as my old vets were terrible at giving you information you had to push for their advise. Make sure you do not leave until you have all the information you need after all you are paying for it!
I really hope your dog gets better0 -
Im so sorry. Is she very old?0

Poor old girl. I always think if they are not in pain and still getting some joy out of life, tail wagging etc., then just wait and see. But if there's any pain and they're not eating, or just sleeping all day, then it's time.
You've given her a good life and a warm loving home. If you have to show her that last kindness and let her go gently, you will have done everything possible for her.
I know what you're going through as do many on here. Big hug for you0 -
Aw, sorry. When was the last stroke? Dont be too hasty, we had the same bred and the same illness, she recovered after every stroke even the last one which took a bit longer. It was a growth that went nasty in the end that got her. i think she was about 17.
Fingers crossed, maybe give her a bit more time?Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
It happened on Friday and normally she is up and walking normally by now but this time it seems worse. she will get up on her feet but is so unsteady that she falls over. She is just reluctant to move at all and is a little off her food, she has eaten today ... Thanks for all the kind thoughts so far.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0

Oh dear - it does sound as if she is coming to the end of what has been a long life. I have always believed that it is better a day too early than a day too late - your old lady cannot tell you what suffering she has - and although its heartbreaking for you, you will have done the kindest, most loving thing you can do for her.0

Did the vet confirm it was a stroke? Or is it vestibular syndrome/disease? If vestibular, i'd be tempted to give her longer than a week if she is not in pain and is eating OK (the 'sea-sickness' often puts them off their food and makes them reluctant to walk). Have you noticed any improvement since she had the attack?
Hope your vet can give you advice to help you make the right decision for your old lady ((()))0
