Which supplier for 2 way meters on just electric

Hi there,

I am wondering if anyone can help me decide whether I am on the best energy provider. I live in a 2 bed apartment on my own and I have a 2 way (eco 20:20) meter with EDF. I originally moved in 2 years ago and I was on a standard British Gas Meter which cost me an absolute fortune. The aparment is electric only and the boiler heats up over night. It's designed to be run on a 2 way meter.

I went for EDF originally because they offered nectar points and they offered a free meter. Now I've been with them over 18 months now so I am entitled to chance providers. The question is who do I go to and why?

British gas are now offering nectar points but I couldn't find their economy 7 tarriff on their website to compair.

Hope someone can help?

Thanks

Kaz

Have you tried a comparison site to see what E7 tariffs are available in your region? (Such as uswitch.com or energyhelpline.com)

It's a bit crazy to determine your supplier by virtue of a few Nectar points.
Use a comp site with your annual kWh figs and concentrate on the results from that-forget the freebies.

  • Put you postcode / meter [ Two Rate ] type / and kWh in here

    - then put the same info into a comparison site and see which utility is better, or post your kWh per annum usage here in the group for more advice.

macman - I never said it was the only reason to be with an energy supplier, it's a bonus if I get nectar points. Ideally the best senario is cheaper tarriff and nectar point!

Richie-from-the-Boro - Thanks I'll take a look at that. Do you know if anyone else offers that kind of checker other than British Gas?

It looks like I might save going to British Gas.

Just use any of the MSE recommended comp sites, energyhelpline, uswitch etc. Then use a cashback site to do the actual switch.
The few pounds that you get from Nectar points are unlikely to be as rewarding as choosing the cheapest tariff, which could save you £100's.

No my friend I don't, and anyway you should always check with two or more sites. Once you have your kWh you can do so easily. I'm on Scottish Power, with my current provider I need to be pre-armed with the following to even begin to make an objective comparison :

    - - am I on the most cost effective tariff for my usage
    - - what is my account number
    - - what is my meter number
    - - what is my area code number
    - - what is the precise name of the ' plan ' I'm on
    - - what is my [ CAC ] Calculated Annual Consumption
    - - what discounts do I get / internet access / Direct Debit etc
    - - what are the precise start and end dates for my contract
    - - what would be the precise date for ending my contract

    - best of luck kyazdani

If you have a meter with eco 20:20 EDF will have given you a free meter because of the tariff....it's cheap rate evenings and weekends.....DEFINATLEY NOT economy 7.

You'll need another meter to replace the one you have if it's eco7 your after, but the bills wil cost you more if (as I suspect) you don't have storage heaters.
