We are getting married in August this year and we sent save the date cards last December and our invites about a month ago. We got our save the date cards free from vistaprint and they looked really nice and got lovely comments on them.

Definately contact the people who have to travel - be it by email. phone call, or just a letter. That way they can plan in advance & get cheap flights etc.

  • A friend of mine has done a pdf 'save the date'. She's been able to email it out to most people (posted it to a few older relatives) and it's worked really well. It's also looks like there's a bit more effort than just putting it on facebook but at the same time it's really easy. Just make something in word or paint and convert it to a pdf but using a free website like youconvertit or zamzar.

Because pdf are easily emailable you can put together a separate one with details of venue, hotels etc for people who are very organised. You then have it ready for when you decide to send the actual invites so you can just re-print it and pop it in the envelope when you're ready.

I didnt do save the dates but we set up the website ages ago and gave everybody the links to it - it has details of local hotels, taxis etc. We used www.gettingmarried.co.uk - it's free, dead easy to use and you can put loads on if you want or just get rid of pages you don't want. It has a lot of pages set up or you can make extra/different ones for yourself. We still haven't sent the invites yet but most of our guests have already booked their hotels

We did what serious_saver's friend did- the STD PDF. I did spend quite a time making them, because I wanted them to match our colour scheme and theme. I used a motif which I plan to use on the invites (we are making our own). I got people's email's off facebook, and just made sure that an email got sent to every family so they all knew the date.
Seemed to work, and cost nothing but time! :money:
