Landlord Advice - Extending a Lease

I am currently letting my flat and my tennants have a 6 month rental agreement. It is coming to an end on 22nd June 2011, i havent had any indication that they are planning on moving on so need to get the paperwork in place to cover the next 6 months.
How do I go about this, do I just issue a new 6 month lease or is there som kind of extention letter that I need to issue? I live in Scotland.......
Also would you get in touch with your tennant first to check they were staying on or just go ahead and send out the paperwork.
Finally I have still not had the inventory back, I have good tennants who pay the rent on time every month should I be worried about this?
