I purchased a little runaround,Daewoo matiz, for my wife. The alloys are blackened and will not come off with scrubbing.I dont want an award winning finish, just a way of smartening them up for little expense.?
Any ideas?

try alloy wheel cleaner from halfords or the like would be the first idea.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
+1. I got some from local car shop. Spray on, rub with brush and rinse off.0

Try Autoglym ally wheel cleaner. If that fails give up or get them refinished.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
The stuff you need is called wonder wheels, It comes from halfords and comes with a brush, Its fairly expensive (£10 or so) but providing it's just caked dirt not damage it will 100% remove it!!!I dont have to show riches, To pull up, Pull of with some bad b*tches, It's about my persona, Aint nothing like a man that can do what he wanna0

Wonder Wheels is a strong cleaner, so should be just the job to bring your wheels back to where you want them.
Once that's done, and you've used up the Wonder Wheels, you should be able to keep the wheels the way you want them with one of the cheaper cleaners.0 -
Another vote for Wonder Wheels here - it's amazing stuff. However, it is quite strong so I wouldn't be using it every week, so possibly get the smallest possible bottle you can. B&Q have recently started selling car cleaning stuff and seem to undercut Halfords on price, so might be worth a visit there.0

2nd thought is as I said earlier. You say the crap won't come off with scrubbing?, seems to indicate that it's black oxide UNDER the laquer, ie, the finish has started to break up.
For a runabout leave it, or do a cheap DIY refinish, or spend £150 and get a showroom set of wheels, (on a runaround):o,I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Stardrops in hot water and a microfibre cloth.
Dont use the cloth on the paintwork ever again after using on the wheels.
When done "run it round the block" to get any residue off the pads and discs if you have them.0 -
get a scrubbing brush and some neat washing up liquid, or powerful truck soap.
then get dirty and scrub0 -
Take a look at www.polishedbliss.co.uk. Excellant site for car cleaning advice and products.0
