Asda wage

Options
Hi,
I've just applied for a job as a shift leader, but it does not list a wage. I'm just wondering if anyone here wrks for Asda, and could tell me roughly how much it's likely to be?

Many thanks

I got offered a job this week as a colleague for £6.15 p.h.

I got the Best Welcome yesterday. I thought it was a great place to work...might well be but boy are they picky!? The stuff you have to say to customers is ridicilous. Far too fake for my liking. I'm a really easy going person & polite to people but having to say "is there anything else I can help you with?" everytime a customer speaks to you would seriously get on my boobies! Why can't I be myself?!

Also they were really unorganised (it was a job for a new Netto takeover store). I told them the hours I could work (evenings & weekends), gave me a job on checkouts which shut at 8pm........they had no rotas, didn't know where some of the staff would be working even though they applied for a certain position.

When they invited me to the BW meeting half way though they said "when you're here tomorrow....." erm excuse me.....they seem to forget that everyone can't just drop things for them. And they also expect you to train in a store for 25-30 hours for 2-3 weeks. What about those who already have a job??!

Told us how they failed the "mystery shopper" by hiding half of a name badge. ....christ, there are far more worrying things happening in this world. Be prepared for the bucketload of jargon they use....... what happened to the use of English I have no idea! They love their huddles, rumbling, EDLC,EDLP, SM, BWS, POS, SEL, whoopsies, 1-1, markdowns.....do you get my drift?!

Hence I declined their offer of a job..........can't drop stuff for them as they wish.

They really showed how unorganised they are.

    Good luck.......

Thanks for such a detailed reply. I'm now worried though, I work for Morrisons atm, just as a normal person, and are on £6.22, so it sounds like they will not be paying a high enough salary to even match what i am currently on (working 35hr/week), and the asda will be 16 miles away too, so will have travel costs too.
Huddles and rumbles..? wow, would be like being back at somerfield...the 11am tannoy call saying "its 11am are you ready to rumble?" (used to be fun watching the customers' reactions!)

Ha i used to work for Somerfield.. Im now at asda! On the checkouts!
Think my pay is £6.36 at the moment.
You do have to have to say a lot of that stuff to the customers, on the checkouts, theres like a list, "Do you need any help with your packing?" "Would you like a bag for life or free carrier" "Thanks for waiting" etc - does get repetative!

£6.15 is the probation period price. I'm sure it went up to £6.36 after 12 weeks. But that is the standard rate so perhaps shift leaders get paid more?

the question "is there anything else I can help you with? is part and parcel of retail and you have to ask, i didnt always ask that question

mystery shoppers are picky but its meant to be that way,

the huddles are in place in other supermarkets as well, its part and parcel

retail suits some people and not others, your not allowed to be yourself since asda would be paying you so you have to work for your money, you have to tow the company line

Because thats what they would be paying for and tbh it sounds like they had a lucky escape with you declining.
