As I never really use my landline, apart from the broadband via adsl o2 it came with free evening and weekend on a 12 month contract. The other day we recieved a letter to say its expiring and if you dont want to renew to call.

I called and requested that evening and weekend be cancelled as never used, he said fine and an email order was sent to me.

Thought nothing of it until this quarters bill came in with an extra 16.00 . Emailed bt and their reply was:

I'm happy to advise that we cancelled the renewal deal of your evening and weekend calls package on 21.05.11. This means that you are no longer on a 12 month renewable contract and out of contract. You are now paying the current price of our Evening and Weekend Plan as requested on your original email reference 110516-003831 but without the renewable contract. Your current bill reflects this. The name "Evening and Weekend Plan" is just another name for your line rental. If we cancelled this it would mean that you would not have a line for telephone service. This plan gives you free local/national calls from 7pm mid week and all weekends.

Why dont they get it? Why would you pay for something you dont use, and dont they just offer the weekend plan which is free
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

No, the base calls plan is the Unlimited Weekend Plan - which is free with line rental. You should have opted for that.

You just cancelled the 'renewable' aspect of the Unlimited Evening & Weekend plan, not the plan itself.

The Unlimited Evening & Weekend plan costs £3/month unless you agree to the 'renewable' 12 month contract.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

You have to ask if you want to go on the weekend plan. Ring them and they will put you on it.

BT were offering you the E&W calls plan free of charge (i.e. waiving the £3/month usual charge) provided you agreed to a 12 month auto-renewing contract.

That would give you inclusive 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 calls evenings and weekends (not at all times).
