Live in France BUT work in UK ...

Options
I would really like to change my bank account from HSBC, BUT although I work as a self-employed part-time carer, paying tax and NI in the UK, my permanent address is in France; as such I have not as yet found a bank that will accept me as a new customer!

Can anyone help please?

do u mean offshore accounts with these UK banks?
A page I saw at Barclays state:
"an annual gross income of £24,000 or more (or currency equivalent) deposited into a Barclays Wealth accountan annual gross income of £24,000 or more (or currency equivalent) deposited into a Barclays Wealth account"
    www.barclayswealth.com/international/client-services/international-telephone-online-banking.htm
    No interest give either!

Could u kindly mention the name of the account and a link?

    Many thanks

RBS/Natwest would open one assuming correct ID/AV documents were provided.

ID proof is not a problem but does the AV require a UK address and utility bills?

    thanx

No. I've taken French bank statements and utility bills before.

is it an offshore account that u opened with RBS/Natwest?
    Is it this one?
    rbsinternational.com/personal/current-accounts/g1/ipca.ashx

This question might sound silly but were u able to do it online and by post, rather than go to Channel Islands?

I would think they mean a normal, UK based account.

I have also opened normal, branch based accounts for people who live overseas, you need to have a compelling reason for needing the account (I would think OPs sounds good enough) and 2 address confirmations plus ID (French bank statement and utility bill plus passport should be ok).

It's the French address that's the problem - will only let you open an account with a UK address!

Nope, Natwest will allow you to open an account with a French address.

However you need 2 forms if address verification and a compelling reason for the need of a UK account but don't live here.

Had a long chat on line with Barclays bank but in the end told couldn't open a UK account. Told to try Barclays Offshore - anyone got a spare £10,000 I could have to open the account?:rotfl:

Will try Nat West today! thank you
