Have you made it clear to them how important it is that you minimise the time when the toilet/shower aren't working? I know it sounds silly but they may not think you're that bothered unless you specifically ask, and they might be able to work things better so as to cause you less disruption.
Whatever happens, hopefully it'll end up taking much less time - and just remember that finished product, which will make it all worth the wait!
We have 2 guys - 1 builder / plumber, one tiler / plumber / builder, with a subbie electrician to certify their electrical work, so maybe that's why.
Have to say, it's the thought of the finished room that is keeping me going! Came home to a toilet on the floorboards, no plaster and 1/2 a ceiling!!0 -
You'll be fine. I was in a similar predicament when I was about 38 weeks pregnant (bad planning - lol!).
A daily strip wash / baby wipes wipe-down will be fine and then a few times a week go swimming and use the showers / pop round to a mate's etc. It's not ideal but manageable and when you do have a fully-functioning bathroom, that first shower will be AMAZING!0 -
and the first time we have been sans bathing facilities, so the original request for ideas was not flippant and I don't think warranted the "you don't know you are born" type responses... Maybe I am a bit thick not to come up with those ideas myself, but you lot don't know where my talents lie
Certainly not thick, and maybe not ''personally flippant'' but it does show how lucky a society we have become, that even in time of water shortage and in a whole lifetime its the first time its happened to you!I think that should make you a bit grateful: I'm amazed, and while I wouldn't go so far as to say ''you don't know you are born'' I do think its a remarkable situation really to have never had periods of time without a bath/shower
Good luck.Buy a lovely, scented soap and a stack of facecloths and lovely towels. Make it indulgent...maybe even strip wash each other
Anything to make it more fun, and rejoice that its summer!
I have to admit I went ages over the cold weather with strip washing because it was just too cold to stew in a bath then get out, a strip wash is quicker. I prefer washing my feet in a bowl/bucket.0 -

This thread really made me smile as we are having our bathroom done as well as two loos. Was able to use bathroom shower for first time in nearly three weeks yesterday, brilliant, and loos being done one at a time so we always have one operational. Really didn't feel comfortable taking up friends on offers of use for shower (coming and going in someone else's house) so in end we booked a single room with bathroom in a nearby inexpensive (for London suburb) guest house (found on Trip Advisor, never even knew it was there). Not a fantastic shower there as pressure bit iffy and temperature kept changing
and quite a bind driving there every day but at least we had freedom to come and go. DS at uni and rejoined his local gym when he came back so he could shower there, so it was really just me, DH and DD (who is 25).
I was freaking out at thought of no bath/shower at home as I like to have a shower twice a day, but I managed by washing in a sink/babywipes in morning and going out for a shower early evening.
Yes, I know that people didn't have these bathing facilities back in the day and we are lucky that we have managed to put these arrangements in place, but it's a a big project (on a tiny bathroom but a lot of plumbing/rewiring). The guys doing it are very nice and doing a very good job and I feel that it's actually easier now it's started and we have a shower back (although bathroom not finished yet).
To the OP - I'm with you on this. I don't think that just because lots of people used to bathe in a tin bath in front of the fire back in the (very) old days means that we should feel guilty about bathing habits in 2011
Hope this helps in some small way! We have to do our kitchen at some point soon and that really sets me off as well!0 -
Is there a shower facility at your work? I know my office has one for people who cycle in so maybe there's something like that..."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0

If you live near a costal hoilday type location is there no nearby camp sites or hookup carvan parks {we stayed in one which was 20 miles away from the beach last year so there maybe one nearer than you think}, as these tend to have shower blocks you could use.
If not ignore me, i tend to have moments where i think i'm a lifesaving, genious pussle solver when in reality i am a idiot:p.0
