House near the Railway Station

Hi
OH and I have got our house up for sale. I have lived here 18 years(lived here with first hubby!!!) and OH has lived here 10 years. We have never been in a position to buy a house together---til now!!We have had ours on the market for 4 weeks(with no interest at all!!!).
We have been looking at some new houses not far from where we are and well within our price range---these are 3 storey homes but not the typical town house----exactly what i was looking for as I work from home and hope to use the top floor as an office. The thing is they are very near the Railway Station---we have been over several times(various hours of the day) and really cant hear anything. OH points out that most trains are only travelling slowly here---either pulling out or approaching the station. There are the freight trains which dont stop and a couple of passengers that just pass through each day. Would this put you off buying here? All the houses have gone apart from this last phase---it is in an ideal position for myself as I dont drive and most things are within walking distance as it is very central.OH says I am just been fussy----but I dont want to buy one(thats if we ever sell our house LOL) and then find the house is vibrating!
Thanks for any advice

Wouldn't put me off. You'll probably get more for your money because of it too
I spent part of my childhood in a house with the railway line running the other side of our back hedge (my trainspotting cousin loved to visit
) and when I first moved to London was only one row of houses away from the railway. You notice a bit of noise at first, but soon it doesn't even register.
And proximity to the station might be a plus point when it comes to selling

Hi Gilly
Well my OH and I lived right on top of the Railway Station in the south for 33 years, and I can assure you that the Trains never bothered us as we had Double Glazing Windows!
Having said that for a few weeks we did suffer Vibration. We complained to Network Rail, as there was a bad patch on the rails. The problem was sorted!0 -
Our flat used to sit along side a branch railway line, there was only ever 2 trains an hour but to be honest we NEVER heard them we would often sit and say we've not heard a train for ages!
It wouldn't put me off if the trains were pulling in or away but I might be more inclined to be weary if I was situated half way down the line once they have gathered speed (if you get what I mean)
I'd see it as a bonus if you don't drive (we don't either)House purchase completed 6th December whole process took 4 months.
Hang in there everyone it is worth it0 -
having lived near a railway line in my old house; it never bothered me, until I moved when I noticed how quiet it is now. I seriously never noticed the tranis at the time. I had a friend who lived facing the line, she couldn't talk on the phone with the windows open, this was a problem in summer. She said that the lounge floor vibrated slightly when the night freight train ran past.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hi
Thanks for all the replies. The main line isnt right next door ---there is a huge car park separating the new estate---not sure how far distance wise but the house isnt "sitting on top of the line".Just a friend pointed out today that the house may vibrate but to be fair her house is positioned on another estate further down the line and the trains are picking up speed when they pass her house(plus the line is right on her doorstep).

The first week I moved into a house near a railway line I thought I'd made a huge mistake, second week onwards I never even noticed them passing, including the Eurostar at full chat (we'll as fast as it's allowed to travel through built up areas anyhow).
Don't even consider it a problem.0
