IT Certification

OK, so I haven't done any certification exams for a while. Currently got MCSE NT 4, OS/2 Lan Server (what a blast from the past that is!), Compaq ASE (Expired), and passed Windows 2000 Server and professional.
I am now doing IT for a company that uses Netware 5 (no plans to move to 6).
The Netware 5 CNA exam is due to expire at the end of March 2007. Is it worth cramming for this exam and taking it, (I have a study book for it) or should I be looking to do Windows 2003 MCSA and Vista/Office 2007
Any advice much appreciated
Was at Microsoft today for Seminar on Vista and Office 2007 and it looks quite good, shame they didn't give away any free copies

Hi Shawz
You will find your MCSE NT4 is no longer current as well. Are you paying for your own exams and/or courses. Are you a contractor ?
If you are an employee, and looking to move soon, then yes getting the updated exams will help, especially if your company will pay. Vista will be here, as 2003/AD is getting taken up, but companies looking to hire these skills will look for actual experience. So it just depends what your plans are.....Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -
Netware is pretty much dead nowadays. I left a job years ago after my old boss who was a die hard Novell fan wouldn't change directions and move more into Windows NT. Last thing I heard, he had become MCSE!

If your gonna spend time & money, go with MS certs. If you have a Novell background, people will respect you more and are less likely to think of you as a paper MCSE.0 -
If you are in a permanent job, I don't see the point in chasing qualifications, as you've found out, they are as much use as a cycling proficiency certificate after a couple of years. However, if you are in the contract market, I'm sure they'll impress the odd potential employer, and recruitment "consultant".Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I think i'll leave the Novell and look at the Microsoft stuff.
Thanks for all your help

HBC Academy are a Cisco Regional Networking Academy, a non-profit organisation who are dedicated to educating people of all ages and from all walks of life in various IT areas. They are also partnered with OCR and several other training organisations and IT companies throughout the UK. And are currently operating in the UK and parts of Africa.
They also have a prometric test centre, so you won't have to go elsewhere to take any exams after having done some training.
They'll be starting a popular Microsoft course in Feb, MCDST.
They also do webhosting, webbuilding (+ courses for it), security cameras & remote control, etc. etc.
