What's a ferry supplement?

Just booking my holiday and they mentioned a ferry supplement add on, what on earth is that? 
I am going with Stenaline ferries from Holyhead to Dublin (and other way round coming back) and wondered if you knew. I settled for the normal ferry in the end, because if high winds come you won't be able to sail on fast, and why pay extra for something you can't guarantee? I've just never heard of a ferry supplement price before.
And yes, I've aware that I only ever seem to go by ferry...

I found out yesterday, one is because it's at the weekend and one because I am using the Stena Nordica on Wednesday coming back, and apparently it's a small ferry so you pay extra (I don't understand that, smaller ferries = more chance of cancellecation due to bad weather, and more movement anyway, and why pay more for that?)The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0
