Hello.
Quick query on behalf of someone.
My friends mother does not have a will at the moment, and is quite ill. She has about £150K in a bank account at the moment.
If she passess away will that money automatically be given to her only child?
Thanks

Read this:
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cto/customerguide/page14-2.htm
If the link does not work it depends on if there is a spouse.0 -
No, there is no spouse or partner. He died a few years ago now.0
-
So reading that website, the money would basically pass to her child?0
-
Well yes but if she can be persuaded to make a will everything will be much smoother and will not take forever to sort out legally. Also people often have far more than you think, what about her home is that owned or rented?0
-
Yes, I am going to advise them to make a will.
She does'nt own her home anymore as she has moved in with her daughter, in order for her to be better looked after.
I really appreciate the information0
