Advice please re: CSA

Hi all,

Ex pays CSA every month for our son even though he has not had any contact with his son for the last 9 years :mad: , short of it is that ex has new partner and they are expecting a baby in the new year.

Ex has been oh so kind :rolleyes: in letting me know that he will be delighted when his new baby arrives so that he can cut his CSA payments for my son.

Any advice as to what will happen?

You must be on CS1? When was the last time he was re-assessed?

cosmic your payment may well be reduced to allow extra money for your ex for the new baby, maybe have a look on the csa website or give them a call

Last time the case was assessed was in 2000, CS1 i assume is the old system if so yes is the answer.

mmmm well basically yes, thats if the mother goes back to work. Im not sure about the old system (what you are on) but under the new, the absent parents new partner's income is not included in a maintenance assessment.

Your payments might only drop a few pounds, maybe you ex thinks his payments might be cut a lot more than what it actually might be, shame he cant look after the child he already has aswell as another one, what kind of slime ball gloats about it

Best bit is to speak to a CSA advisor, they should be able to tell you how much the reduction will be

Slime ball :rotfl: is actually a very nice word that i would use for him !!!!! I doubt i would last long on here if i was to express my feelings about him :eek:

The thing that really p!!!es me off is he had the nerve to get in contact last month telling me to tell my son that he would be getting a new brother/sister in the new year.

:mad: what a low life piece of !!!!!!.

At the end of the day he is the one loosing out, my son means more to me than anything in the world, shame his father doesn't feel the same way.

To be honest, it may make hardly any difference at all. It really depends on his circumstances and how they have changed since 2000. Did he have a partner back in 2000? If you could PM me with the full details of the last assessment, I can tell if there are partners details included. In some cases, no difference at all, in some cases a big difference. If his last assessment had his partner who was working full-time, then it may make a difference as she may give up work now, so their household income will be lower and their protected income higher, but his income may have increased since then which could offset some of the changes.

Many NRPs expect that as soon as they have a new baby, that their assessment will drop a lot, and are surprised when it doesn't. We need a lot more info to determine whether it will change at all.

I would ask for a reassessment anyway. I am sure his wage has gone up a lot since 2000 and this could balance out any reduction for the baby.

:eek: I hate looking for CSA letters lol, have looked through the last maintenance assessment no partner was included in this assessment.

I seriously need to get this reviewed!! according to reviews and changes of circumstances: under child support law we are required to look at your circumstances at least once every 2 years to ensure the correct amount of child maintenance is being paid, This review of circumstances takes into account all the changes which have been reported but which have not resulted in a change to the amount currently payable.

!!!!!! i haven't had a review since 2000 OMG what a can of worms

from the other side of the fence - If he is having another baby then his disposable income may drop so it is only fair that his payments come down.
