Lloyds visa trustcard

We have been using this card for cheque purchases and as a c/c for years. Today OH went into Sainsburys to do part of the Xmas shop and went to pay by cheque as it was below £50.00. Sorry they say this card is not a cheque guarantee card. Well it has been for at least 5 years and we have not been issued with an alternative. Very embarassing. Luckily there were enough nectar points and she had the balance in cash to pay for the food as she does not know the pin number.
Since when has the Visa Trustcard stopped being a guarantee card? Alternatively has Sainsburys fouled it up?

Either it's a cheque guarantee card/switch/maestro, or a credit card, it can't be both. If it's the former, there should be a hologram on the front displaying the guarantee limit - normally £100."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Can I just ask why you are still using cheques. Isn't it more convenient to just swipe?

I don't swipe as I don't have a debit/switch card, We have only been issued this card which has worked till now. Will have to change soon as lots of people( Smiths, Esso etc) no longer accept cheques
We have always taken c/c as guarantee cards at work as they were always both, maybe things have changed without us noticing.

Edit--Just found the paper upon which the trustcards were attached, under the glue was a small box with smaller writing saying they no longer provide a guarantee facility and if you want a debit card for this you'll have to apply for one, as this was at the end of 2 pages of T&C's we did not read it. Why not send a letter saying this and offer to replace with debit before sending a card I can't use?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
I used to use my Visa Trustcard as a guarantee card but was told by my bank that I needed the debit card for cheque guarantee card but that was years ago.0

Lloyd's Trustcard DID used to be a cheque guarantee card as well as a credit card, the original poster is correct, I did have one but its now with their collections dept. Whether it's changed or not i don't know but i would of thought the op would of had a letter stating this if things had changed.0 -

I agree with you but i still use cheques not because of the 3 day time to clear and not having enough in the bank until i can move money but because i lose things very easily or put them down and with memory problems a little slip of paper showing me how much has been debited is very easy for me to lose. Using a cheque gives me a paper trail that i can't lose as easy. I will cry when cheques are not longer accepted or in use.0 -

I think some of the problem is that they send loads of junk with the C/c statements, if they include a letter within this there's a fair chance it'll be dumped with the rest. This is probably what happened with me, I did just read the statement and lose the rest, just like I would guess, do 90% of us.

OH has now ordered debit cards to get over this problem and we'll cut up the trustcards, remembering too many pins is a problem and we don't use the same one for all.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

I have posted this before there is an easy way to remember PINs even if you have loads of cards. On the front of each card is 16 digits, pick some combination of these, add in the digits from your age, your house number etc. that way you only need to look at the front of the card and you can work out the PIN. It also ensures that the PIN number is different on each card (which is always a wise move).
