Apple designed it so that iTunes is the master, the iPod the slave.

When you Sync, it copies the content of the iTunes library to the iPod. One way. Yes, the library on the laptop is empty, that's why you're getting the warning message.

If you want all the music that's on the previous machine, you need to look at ways of copying the iTunes library from one PC to another, or of copying the content from your iPod to the laptop. Google it.

Yes, an iPod can only be sync'd with one library - connect it to another, and you can rewrite the whole iPod with the new content, but as you've found out, at least it warns you first.

Q1: Google for solutions to copy the library from PC to PC, or from iPod to laptop

Q2: Yes, your partner can sync his iPod to your library, as long as he's happy to erase all content from his iPod and replace it with the content of your library.

    Q1 as above

Q2 I will have to diagree with (and it seems not a lot of people know this). What you need to do is hold down the SHIFT and double click the itunes icon (keep SHIFT held). You then get a message asking you something like create a new library or open an existing one (sorry I am at work atm so can not say exactly). Release SHIFT now and click the create new library

Then just follow the boxes through to make and save the new library and click ok

You now have a complete blank library on the pc and this will be along side any existing ones. You or your partener can now create and sync their own library

To switch between, just select the open existing library option instead of the create

Just make sure you remember to do this every time, else you may (*cough-not-that-I-did-this-once*) forget and sync your iphone to your partners selection :-)

But all I did was go back and swap then restore mine from my library, Easy
