Unless there are any transactions from the account, I suspect solicitors may be the only answer here. Even they may need to get a court order to reveal the details you're after.
If the payment is to a relative how would you ever prove that it wasn't a gift? The bank statements will only show transactions not the reasons. ie a withdrawal not a loan. Think hard before you throw good money after bad. (I'm assuming you're considering a recovery of the money. If not I apologise for my assumption.)0 -

By the sounds of it, you have no alternative but to go to a Solicitor, you won't be able to receive any sort of information on the other party just by 'fluke' or transferring your own cash to them.Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I'm not perfect and don't live to be. But before you start pointing fingers - make sure your hands are clean. Bob Marley - Legend.0

To be honest it sounds more like a case for the Police to investigate0

A friend went through a similar situation. It'll sound unpalatable, but what can be done. This was a transaction between two parties. One of whom is unable to put her side. You'll be unlikely to get the police involved, as there's little evidence of a crime, certainly insufficient to obtain a prosecution. The odds are the other party has insufficient funds to return the money.0
