Can't get picture card in laptop

Hi all,
So I came back off holiday yesterday and decided to upload our pictures on to my laptop. There are two memory cards, one is mine and the other is my boyfriends, and i inserted my card into the slot and copied my pics no problem.
Then I tried to insert the other card but it will not go in the slot, tried everything and it won't fit! Am I being dumb here, I thought all camera memory cards were compatible??
It is a Olympus xd 128mb picture card if that helps.
Can anybody help?!

Depends if your machine supports it, many have different slots, usual alternative is to plug the camera in via usb, or buy a usb adapter from a pound shop!!
