Why are you giving me the Bipolar ref., Richie?

Everyone in general needs objective fact rather than subjective opinion.

You in the particular because you said "" I wouldn't see any reason to advise DLVA! Sorry...DVLA ""

If your personal condition fits within the scope of my #50 post you may wish to reconsider your reasoning, if your condition does not fit within the #50 I fail to see why you made that out~of~context assertion in the first place.

I'm away till late tonight, but still here for about ten more minutes :)

Gosh to attitudes of some really could do with changing. There's just no reason to talk to people like this trying to be as condescending as possible all the time.

We were talking previously in this thread about the wording of the guidance on medication and wether or not it in itself should warrant notification to the DVLA it was a relevant reply and didn't require your "I'll talk to you like a child" response.

Unfortunately it's how some people on here get their kicks.

Tomorrow morning I will ring DVLA and my GP and Pyschiatrist to find out what should be done. So thank you to all who commented. What I ask is if anyone can suggest what I should do now in terms of the DLA.?

Charmaine hello, I hope the 'phone calls went well. I think you should follow MissRubyRed's suggestion, that you talk to the advice worker to find out more about what was said, and why he advised you to withdraw.

From my perspective, this looks like crossed-wires. The question re driving licences related initially to bipolar, you then mentioned something about what was on your medication packet and then Richie replied to you. I take it that Richie thought you were still considering the original bipolar question, i.e. looking at it from a medication viewpoint, and giving another angle on it in response, whereas this question by you suggests that what you wrote about medication wasn't intended to relate to the original question of whether someone with bipolar could drive.

But that's only how it looks from here.

She did specify she was referring to painkillers though.

    Thanks jetta, spherelance and Sue.

I was just making the point that it's only if taking the medication affects you by causing drowsiness, your ability to drive would be impaired. I don't see the need to let DVLA know if there's no such effect.

That's why I queried the bipolar link - I didn't see the relevance to what I'd posted.

No but she and every other driver who drives while unfit to do so is putting every other road user in danger and that includes her own kids, would you want that on your conscious?

I wouldnt, I couldnt live with it which is why I make sure Im safe and if she had bothered to read the DVLA guidelines she would have found out that she should have contacted them, like everyone else with any medical problems/disability.

I paid for an assessment before I re-learnt to drive, it was hundreds of pounds but thats what my piece of mind cost, when you drive you have the people who you care about most in the car with you and so does everyone else.

This is black and white, not what you neurotypicals call grey.

So you have never made a mistake or error of judgement in your life?

Have you ever driven when tired or been distracted when driving? Have you ever had an alcoholic drink then driven (even if safely under the limit, alcohol can affect judgement/reflexes)? Have you ever driven when not feeling 100% (colds, etc)?

No, never and I never will, people take the micky because I wont even have a glass of wine after 9pm if Im driving the next day but I could never place myself and my family in danger, you dont have a clue what its like, nor does the Op or she wouldnt have been driving when a quick google shows she must report Bi Polar to Swansea, it dosnt even mean you cant drive but it means you are checked up on and only given the privilidge of driving whilst safe to do so.

Stats show that it is the elderly on routine meds that's the growing sector of driving whilst unfit but ask anyone of them and they will say they are fine, the elderly bloke that reversed into my parked car said he was fine but he couldnt see to write his information or explain how he managed to reverse into a huge gleaming silver people carrier when he claimed to be going forward, I reported him to Swansea as soon as he admitted the damage was his fault and he lost his licence.

Not one unfit has the right to injure innocent road users, it dosnt matter why they are unfit and I will give up my licence if I ever become unsafe/unfit rather than be a risk to myself and others.

You have never made any sort of error when driving. I'm impressed or you are telling porkies.

Oh really? You don't know that for a fact so that there is an error of judgement, making an assumption. I thought you didn't make mistakes or errors of judgement or is that only when driving?
