I am in exactly the same position. My wife is trying to set up a little business and asked me to create the web site. I am ok with computers, but never created a web
After looking at all the reviews, help, guides etc I could find, I ended up getting Xara Web Designer package. I am slowley getting to grips with things, but I found this to be really quite intuitive. It is a full WYSIWYG system, where you can put pictures, text, links etc anywhere you want on the page. It also has some built in template websites along with things like buttons and nav bars. Something like this may be rught up your street. So have a google for wysiwyg web editorsThere are 10 kinds of people that understand binary

I also want to build a website - but what I'm looking for is a free web host that isn't too complicated.
I've tried http://0000free.com/hosting.html but I'm just stuck on servers, etc. Any suggestions?
As far as presenting the site once I've got it, I'm planning to use Wordpress - it's pretty popular and their portfolio seems quite high standard:

not sure how much easier it'll be but it's got to be better than starting from scratch!
Is it for a business or for a personal page? If it's a business you can get a cheap enough deal to get you through until you can afford something better. Your website is the first thing people see.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
If you think Dreamweaver is too complex and life too short to learn html, try SiteSpinner Pro which lets you build your website as blocks (paragraphs or pics). Good online help tool. Forget price but it is very cheap. www.sitespinnerpro.com0
