Is it necessary to have a home phone line?

This is my first post so I hope someone can help please.
How can I cut costs?
I'm currently spending 27.99 per month for home phone line, broadband and TV package with Virgin Media. I don't have a BT line. Am looking to cut costs on this but am a bit confused about which way to turn.....any advice out there.....?
I am wondering if I need a home phone line as I already spend 35 per month on an iphone with O2.
Any advice gratefully received.

You don't need a phone line for VM cable broadband, but if you don't take the phone service then the extra they will charge you for the remaining bundle will wipe out most of the saving.
Why not drop the subscription TV and use Freeview or Freesat for nothing?
Switching your broadband away from VM will require you to pay for a reconnection or install of a BT line in order to get ADSL broadband. There are no alternative cable suppliers.
