Has my bank account defaulted?

Hi,

Long time reader, first time poster :o

I have got myself in abit of a state with my bank account. A while back in 2008, i kind of burried my head with an overdraft (£100), didn't hear much about it which eventually lead to me forgetting about it (till now!).

I check my credit file yesterday on equifax, first my credit rating (going for a mortgage) and discovered 2 red areas, one was "Your payment history shows that you have previously been 3 payments in arrears. " and counted as a very poor, the other was "You are currently not making all of your payments on time and are several months late " and counted as poor. When i check into this the only area on my credit file is this halifax bank account.

It shows as 3 months in arrears from july 2008 - Aug 2010 then not updated since.

My question is what can i do about this now?

I tried calling Blair Oliver Scott to ask if it had been defaulted but the operator couldn't tell me, just saying that the account was defaulted as soon as they recieved it and continued to ask if i was paying the 145.77 (45.77 seems like charges).

I was also under the impression that defaults had to be registered 6 months after no payment has been recieved? This not being updated seems to be causing my CF to be even worse, Never missed a payment on anything else and upto date with everything, but still have a equifax rating of 248 :(

I am happy to pay back 100% this money (things have changed dramatically in a couple of years), however would this do me any good if it has already been written off or am i giving money to an agency for nothing?

If i do pay it now, does that mean the default will be removed (if it exists??) or am i going to pay then they will default it meaning i have to wait 6 years from today rather than 2008?

if it hasnt been defaulted, it may be still an active account within collections
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

You need to wait for someone more knowledgeable to answer most of your question, however, Blair, Oliver, Scott is an in-house solicitors unit at HBOS. I suspect that they only receive details of your account once it has been defaulted by the bank.

I gave Blair Oliver Scott a call to pay the balance, I was told the account had been dafaulted sometime in March 2011. The payment was not made however as the guy on the phone hungup (2 out of 3 calls have hung up - I take it no bonus is paid for collecting my account??).

Just before i call back to pay i though i'd better check -

I think the default has been put on far too late (2+ years) of non payment, are they allowed to hang on to an account for years before defaulting it?
