New windows and doors - paying for the fitting separately?

My son has just moved into something of a money pit and one of the first items on his extensive 'to do' list is to replace the windows and doors.
Sensibly, he has approached local companies and now has, I think, received 4 quotes. They are all around the £5,500 mark but the latest one he has received is for just over 4K, with a condition attached - he must pay the element of the quote for the fitting direct to the subcontract fitters. I've told him to be weary as I can see issues arising if there are any problems with the windows but wondered if anyone had any experience of this?

If there are problems the fitter will blame the supplier and the supplier will blame the fitter.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I agree with the post above
Get it done by the same company and dont pay until you are happy with the result have a walk round the whole job with the fitters after they have finished0 -
It is a VAT dodge. The fitter's turnover is too low to be VAT registered, so it gives the supplier a competitive edge. The downside is that if anything goes wrong both the fitter and the supplier can wriggle out of it much more easily.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. All of the above posts are correct. Get a supply and fit contract and there will only be one !!!! to kick if there are ant problems.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
