Hello
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop.
OS: Vista (Service Pack 2)
Memory: 2.00GB
32-bit operating system.
I tried to run chkdsk as I kept getting BSOD, but it froze on 83% and has done since c.8pm night, so well over 12 hours.
Any suggestions as to what I should do.
Thanks.

Is that through windows or at boot .
However, you the computer user can manually run the chkdsk command to check for problems.
To do this:
Step One: Click Start, select Run
Step Two: In the box, type cmd
Step Three: Click Ok
Step Four: Run the chkdsk utility by typing in the following command:
chkdsk c: /f /r
NOTE: The /f command automatically fixes any errors encountered, the /r command locates bad sectors and recovers readable information.
NOTE: I am also assuming the drive you wish to check is the C: drive.

Thanks for your reply.
This is at boot and you are correct it's for my C drive.
Edit: I just tried to do the above. I got the message:
'Access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges.
You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode'
Does anyone know what that means please? This is a lappie that was given to me by another home user. It's not a work one.

Just need to run it as administrator. Press Start, type CMD into the search bit, and when cmd.exe shows up, right click on it and select Run as Administrator.0
