Hi,
Have recently downloaded and used Hiren's Boot CD on my desktop PC which was stuck in a start up loop and going nowhere.
Have managed to transfer all my hard drive data to an external drive, so thanks to all on here who recommended this disk.
My question is - I start up via the Mini XP version on the disk and get onto the internet via Opera, which doesn't recognise a lot of my previous web sites. I've tried to download IE but it won't let me.
Does anyone know of a way I can do this as I would like to get to my original desktop etc.
Thanks,

mini xp only allows you to access the internet via whats on the CD so neither your existing favourites or Internet Explorer are an option....Ex forum ambassador

Why are you trying to access your faves via a browser on the disk rather than the hard drive?
Are you basically trying to make a backup of the favorites you made before your system went into a boot loop? If so, all you need to do is make a backup of the "favorites" folder under your user profile on the C:\ drive to an external disk. The C:\ drive should be accessible via MyComputer using the Hirens BootCD.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Can't open C drive - get C:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
Could someone explain to me please?0 -
I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve ??
to get it to boot normally ??
get your favourites ??
Hirens CD is for recovery , which you have done , not really designed for day to day useEx forum ambassador

Dead hard drive? Or can the computer boot up normally?0

No, will only boot up from the CD. Have used one of the programmes on it to transfer all pictures etc onto another drive, so I guess that's probably all I can do.
Sounds as if it should be put out of it's misery!0 -

You can~do what you want with Hirens, but you should have made a bootable USB not CD/DVD if you want the favourites to work within Hirens.
If you only want to ' copy ' the URLS from your old favourites folder, it may not be accessible on your old drive because of corrupted tables. Either way its going to be hard work for no value you will soon build a new set of favourites without the accompanying dross of your old set.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. We haven't the foggiest idea of what it is that you are trying to do.
Slow down. Start again with the make and model of machine, operating system etc and exactly what it is that you are trying to achieve.0 -
