  • Hi leicesterlee3,
Don't be surprised if the survey is done remotely using google and they come back to you stating that as your house is more than x degrees out of true south that you don't qualify for the free install but you can still have the same agreement if you pay an up front amount (between £100 and £500)..beware of scammers in this case.
I had this with a number of companies (including SSE who are my current supplier, and who you would have thought would have a vested interest in installing for free, as they stand to lose quite a bit when I do get a pv system in.)
A couple of companies said my house was 6 degrees out using this survey method when OS (and my house deeds) shows clearly that it is only 1.5 degrees !!
  • you dont actually need `true south` for solar PV either , its just that true south is the otimum - ese to wsw works (just not as much money earnt)

Yes, I know. Just wondering how many systems have actually been installed completely free.
  • the 25 year ` rent a roof` scheme , looking at the numbers , actual savings appear to be on or around £100 a year on the electric bill , with the rest being resold as ` FIT` payments (to the company who own the system) - so you get £100 of free electric and they get the rest of the money ; which is how it works.

when you buy the system yourself , at a cost of in excess of £15000 , you gain both the free electric and the fit payemnts- and i believe the time to break even is around 10 years?

there are alot of threads in the green forum regarding solar PV

And everybody else pays £200 a year extra on their bills to pay for it.

    And your point is?

Why not get it installed yourself?

I do not have it, & have no connection, but I pay for many things via taxes & bills that I do not use, such as baby changing facilities in supermarkets or even schools & universities, it is life

This was suppost to save us all money, like any of this green tariff rubbish it just costs us money so that someone can get on their high horse and say "I am saving the planet."

    One big con.

No thanks, I don't want my roof looking ugly. Anyway it faces east and in shadow from other houses.

Not everyone has a suitable roof.

Whilst I'd love to pass comment about a bitter Scotsman, aren't we rather getting away from the point of the question ?

ps. Have just signed up to Homesun's Solarshare scheme. Hopefully it will be up and running inside a month so I'll let you all know in due course how it goes.
