Iceland - Best Tour to do

Going to Iceland in a few weeks. We are only going there as a two night stopover on the way to New York.
This means we have only one full day and two half days. On one of the half days i want to do the Blue Lagoon on the way to the airport.
However, not sure what to do for the full day. There are 5 of us (3 boys aged 10,8,8). We'd like to cram quite a bit in but are not sure what is the best trip to do or who to book it with. Any advice?
Don't mind paying a little extra to get real good use out of the day. Have thought of maybe a your in a Landrover rather than the normal tourist coaches.

Netbus offers a package of airport transfers, bus and entrance to the Blue Lagoon, and the Golden Circle tour for 15,000 krone, which is a good saving. The South coast tour is good but it is a much longer drive than the Golden Circle. Going in Landrovers didn't appeal to me. It's a waste of money.0

Just had a look on their site, thanks for that. Will look further into it but they look good0

As there are five of you it might be a better financial proposition to hire a car - not cheap, but may be better than 5 X excursion costs.
The main roads are good (and quiet!) and take you to the main tourist sights (sites ?). Many of the lesser roads degenerate into very rough tracks - do not go there unless you have a good 4WD vehicle !
If you do get a car, buy a decent map before you set out. Best place to get one is a petrol station - the car hire maps are useless !0 -
Thanks but, to be honest, i don't really want to drive especially as our time is limited.0

I forgot to mention that the Blue Lagoon is free for children under 13 as opposed to 33 euros for adults. So it might be cheaper to just book the bus without admission for the Blue Lagoon trip.0
