Rights under guarantee/warranty

Hi
I have a situation which I am unclear on....
Purchased an air conditioning unit with a two year guarantee last March. It went wrong and I returned it recently, under warranty, for a refund. Since I purchased this item, the retail price has dropped by around £50.
am I entitled to a refund of the amount I paid for this item or the lower amount at todays retail price ?
Thanks

depends on the terms of the warranty.
Under SOGA, they are entitled to repair or replace if they wish, so the drop in price would be irrelevant
They are also allowed to give a partial refund taking into account your usage which could well be £50
But if you have a warranty, that may give you extra protection. Check the T&CsOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
Thanks for the quick reply. Just to clarify that I am looking for a refund rather than repair/replacement as have had to buy a replacement unit already.
Under these circumstances would the refund reflect the price I paid or the current retail price ?
As most prices go up, I would imagine it is the price I paid but just need to be sure.PLEASE DO NOT STEAL

All you can do is ask. As I say under SOGA, they are entitled to give you a partial refund, but they could still insist on a repair first (their choice). Captain Hindsight says that you should have gone back to the retailer before buying a replacement. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

Assuming "last March" means March 2010.
Firstly, you need to convice the retailer that the thing has an inherent fault.
Having done that, you then need to convince the retailer that a refund is the appropriate remedy.
If a refund is to be given, the retailer in entitled to offer a partial refund, taking into account the use you have had from the thing to date.
The retailer is unlikely to offer you more that you originally paid.
So that's SOGA out of the way.
If you have a warranty, then its terms are in addition to your statutory rights.
This means they could effectively be anything.
As has been said, you need to study your warranty/guarantee to find out what it offers.0
