Housing Benefit query

Hi!

I just wondered if anyone could clarify a point about Housing Benefit for me?

I understand that there is a rule that says that if a person rents a house they've owned within the last 5 years then they aren't allowed to claim benefit unless there was some good reason that they couldn't keep ownership of the home.

My parents were at risk of repossession and the house was bought and rented back to them by a LHA. I just wondered if that was maybe a good enough reason?

If they can prove! that they would have lost the house had they not sold it, then the five year rule doesn't apply.
