I am an executor for an estate for a lady who has been claiming pensioners credit and other benefits for a lot of years and think that the DWS may be due a repayn=ment. I have picked up the advice from this site to post a notice with the London Gazette. Does anyone know if the DWP always checks the probate reg for net account details or is it random checking.
Thanks

I am sorry for your loss, but welcome to the board.
Do you have any references for her? Such as a reference number from a bank statement? If you think the DWP are owed money you would do best to contact them, if they were of pensionable age then you can check with the pension credit service on
0845 60 60 265. They should be able to tell you what benefits they were on, the local council will deal with housing benefit and council tax benefit so they will be able to help you with that.
The silver surfers board also has a wealth of knowledge on probate so they may also be able to help.

Haven't you already notified the DWP? I was executor of my mother's estate, I notified the Pension Service (or whatever it's called) and they sent me a form to fill in. They check for over- or underpayment.
If you mean she had capital that would have affected the benefits, but it was not declared, shouldn't you declare it directly to them?
Advertising in the London Gazette or elsewhere is about private debts/creditors, surely, not about the DWP.
And I suggest you proceed as though every single probate entry is checked.
Edit. I used the Consumer Association guide to obtaining probate.0
