How far in advance to book hotel rooms?

I've got some unmoveable dates to stay in london for 3 nights, in the docklands area in march 2012.

Looking at prices now they seam too expensive, see how far in advance I'm booking.

So when should I book the room? In september?

Wait until Hilton, Travelodge etc have a sale and then book. They quite often do 50% off sales.

  • If you are attending a conference or event at Excel, no obvious other reason to want to be in the Docklands, you will find every hotel from Travelodge, Ibis up to the Four Seasons doubles or triples its prices and I am sorry to say they seem able to sell them at that price. They know a year or more in advance when demand will be high, Ibis was full at £175 a night last November for example. Do not assume prices will fall, they may do so if business is slack but not usually linked to major event
