Could anyone offer me advice please.
After years of moving round and the the children having to keep changing schools (7 moves so far, which I know is alot less than some but my hubbie still has 10 years+) we have finally managed (after years of saving) to afford to buy a house large enough to accomodate our family.
The problem is my husband deploys very, very soon and we are due to complete in 3 weeks when my hubbie is at the beginning of a 6 month tour.
So I have to pack up and move by myself with the 4 kids, which is fine, but with buying a new 4 bed house and all the stamp duty , solicitors fees etc we are truely broke(hubbie is junior ranks and i am a stay at home mum), so if my husband was here he would be able to hire a lorry, drive it and do all the humping and dumping.
I have asked the fwo is we could claim for a move but he said we couldnt (even though we will be freeing up a much needed 4 bed quarter and will no longer need removals and disturbance for my hubbies future posts)
Has anyone any ideas how I could get help moving by myself,I live in a quarter an hours drive from my hubbies camp and dont know anyone else with a lorry license. Sorry for such a long post

i thought you could get some sort of allowance for a move from quarters depending on how far away from camp it is0

Has your hubby not got any mates that are staying on Rear Party? See if any of them would drive a transit van for you. That way it would only cost you van hire, fuel and afew crates of beer.Sealed Pot Challenge member #982

You have more than enough stress to deal with at the moment - is there really no way you can afford to pay for removals, but pack (and unpack) everything yourself? The Shiply website might quote, or phone round some local firms. Presumably OH won't be paying food etc whilst away, and will receive OA (on return) if he's off to sandy places?
Having moved too many times myself, I much prefer to leave it to others, and not be totally knackered when I arrive at the new place.
As far as I know, MOD won't pay for a move unless it's at the same time as a posting (or because the service has asked you to move), but can OH get an advance, given the circumstances (as a welfare case with him going away)?Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
I have to say I agree with the above, I know it's an expense, but with 4 children to consider too it would cause you a lot of stress and also a lot of time to try to move yourself, it might be better to bite the bullet and pay for a removal firm.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks to everyone for your replies.
I had a phone call last night and my hubbie has spoken to hisfather who has offered along with my brother in law to drive down in his van and move everything for me.
Happy days!0
