New year 2011 in Venice

Some friends from the USA have invited the other half and I to spend new year in Venice

We've found some flights which we can use airmiles for, arriving 30th Dec, deParting 1st (after hangover)

I have the following questions for MSE'rs:

What does Venice have to offer for NYE?

Thinking of stayin at the holiday inn - how easy is it going to be to get back there after NYE?

How expensive is Venice?

Any suggestions/help apreciated

Ash

    This:

is the site for the Vaporetto (water bus) company. You could email them to check their holiday service.
    This:

is a water taxi cosortium. I would think they could be running a limited service, but you can email them also.
They should understand English (a little!)

    Hi Ash

I don't know about the Holiday in but when we visited in March, I found this website very helpful: http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/

It is obviously geared towards Americans but the site is full of very useful and up-to-date information.

As for costs, everything seemed to be very expensive and this was the favourite topic with whoever we met. Even getting off the beaten track (we stayed in a 5* hotel on the grand canal which was actually quite good value), the cost of food and drink was much more than I imagined. E.G. typically, a bottle of beer and a diet coke was on average about 8-10 euro.

Mind you, this was not as bad as what our hotel charged for 2 glasses of red wine (about 125 ml of wine in a 250ml glass) - nearly chocked on the 20 euro bill!!!! Bl**dy glad we didn't eat there (except for breakfast, which was included).

Met a poor couple out and about who were on a 2 WEEK holiday - eek! They were having to buy food in the supermarkets and do their own picnics.

It is a fabulous place to visit though, so start saving and have a great NYE.

    Regards
    Phil
