I was travelling back from London to Hartlepool on Saturday night when my little girl had an accident - there was a shattered glass bottle in one of the little waste bins in the gaps between the seats in the carriage and as we were just about ready to stand to get off I asked my little girl to put her sweet wrappers in the bin and not the leave them on the table as she put her hand in the bin she screamed and pulled out her hand which was bleeding. I instantly grabbed the attention of a member of staff who just looked and said it's ok just a little scratch and then said to me you should really keep your children under control they shouldn't be playing in the waste bins to which my response was what did you just say -she could have been seriously hurt and would you rather us leave rubbish strewn across the carriage rather than put it in the bin - she just looked at me as if I was an idiot and then walked away had it not been time to get off I think I would have killed her. Anyway I rang the complaints number and logged a complaint but seriously who would say such a thing.
I'll Complain, Complain Again and keep complaining until I get what I want. I will never let you win, I AM ALWAYS RIGHT and you are always wrong because I have the KNOWLEDGE

The response was rather crass - but to be honest, why put their hand INTO the bin ?0

Your siggy makes you sound so level-headed about such things! Sorry your nipper hurt their hand, accidents happen, especially to kids whilst they are still learning about the world. I don't see it as polar opposites though, slicing a hand or strewing rubbish around the carriage, there are shades in between such as taking your rubbish home with you, or exercising caution when putting your hands where you can't see. Maybe the train person could have been kinder, but what did you expect them to do? The bin seems a rather good place for discarded broken glass, considering the option was "being strewn around the carriage"?!0

I know what you mean. Reminds me of on here when someone called somebody else a dumbass when they had a perfectly good point. Quite rightly the post got deleted but it can still be seen here where it was copied http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=44058540&postcount=210 -

I deal with people like you on a daily basis who assume the customer is always right when they are wrong. They usually get nowhere with me as I can spot them a mile off.
That being said, I'd have probably complained about that staff member. Cheeky Mare!!I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
OP, I assumed your sig was completely tongue in cheek. Everyone else seems to think it's serious.
Can you clear that up?
As to the topic of this post, yes, the member of staff was way out of order in what they said and the way they behaved but it really wasn't the train company's fault if a passenger put glass in a bin - after all, they are there for all sorts of rubbish and it's better to have sharp glass contained away from where people are sitting and walking. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Definately the train staff could have been more sympathetic.
If it was me, I would have offered some treatment from the first aid kid and apologised.
I would say if you write in, you might get some money off vouchers and an apology, but that will be all.
I don't really think the train company can be held responsible for someone putting broken glass in the bin. If a member of staff was informed about it, then the bin bag inside, should have been immediately removed.
But I assume you don't know if that happened, because otherwise you wouldn't have let the child use the bin.0
