Saw for cutting down tree branches

HI.
I'd like to buy a saw to cut down some branches (a few are quite thick) that are overgrowing and leaning against the garage roof.
However, I'm not sure of just exactly what kind of saw I'd need. I'm not talking about entire trees, obviously I'd call out a professional for that. Also, I'm preferrably looking for something cordless, as I'd rather not have to get out the extension cables and such (the distance would be over 50 feet). I know a normal saw (such as that used to cut wood for bookshelves) would not be enough, the branches might blunt it.
Any recommendations are appreciated.
Hussein.

We use a bow saw to cut branches off trees on the allotment; they're not expensive. I think we got ours from Homebase for about £10. Obviously they're manual rather than electric, but ours did the job perfectly even on pretty thick branches.Touch my food ... Feel my fork!0

Pound for pound using a bow saw (or bushman) is going to be a lot less hastle than using a power saw. Make sure the blade is for "green wood" . With a bushman, you will have a lot more control, safer and its cheaper.0

A panel saw from Buildbase costs £4.99. Can't be re-sharpened but very sharp initially.
Undercut the branches first, then overcut, so as to leave a clean edge.0 -
Hi thanks for the replies. That was certainly a lot cheaper than I was expecting. I'll froogle those saws now and get one ordered. £10 for even a one-use only saw would be ok, at least it'd save the garage roof falling in!
