Contribution based JSA help needed

Options
Hi

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place?

I was told by an adviser at the job centre that I need to claim contribution based JSA and was advised that they would write to me and that I shouldnt do anything further until I hear from the job centre again. Two months on, i'm still not working :( and I've heard nothing. Help!

  • Phone 0800 055 6688 to make a claim, before you phone you will need your bank details (to pay your benefit into) your N.I. number and the address of your nearest post office (incase there is a problem with their paying system).

When you phone remember to tell them you would like it back dated.

I phoned on a thursday evening, had a appointment atthe job center the next day and recieved my JSA decision about 9 days later.

That's far too long to wait and it sounds like you've been misled. If you've not yet made a claim you should ring the contact centre on 0800 055 66 88. Have your National Insurance nbr and bank details handy, make yourself a cuppa and allow around 30 mins on the phone. It is very important you try to get details of the person you spoke to originally as this sounds like you'll need to have your claim backdated and you'll need good cause.

If you've made your claim you must contact them asap
I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!

For what reason were you seeing an advisor? Did they process a claim whilst you were there?

Thanks everyone :-) I'll ring them first thing!

I was seeing an advisor as I had put in a claim for normal JSA however after speaking to her I found that my partner is working 2 hours to many a week to claim it! (He works 30 hours a week, I was told if he did 28 hours a week I could get full JSA...)

I assume you mean IB JSA? If so, I'm not sure why you were not assessed for CB JSA at the same time. Let us know what they say when you call.

The info on your partners working hours is wrong. You may be eligible for IB JSA if he works up to 24 hours, but his earnings would be deducted from your entitlement (minus a £10 disregard).

When did you last work? Have you worked regularly over the past three years?

You can't be assessed for income based and not contribution based, its simply not possible. Call the processing centre and ask what's happening

    Thanks everyone :D

I rang them this morning and I've got a job centre interview tomorrow afternoon :j they said that I'm not entitled to income based JSA however I can get contribution based JSA.
