Can't open saved documents

When I try to open certain saved documents I get :

"the requested operation requires elevation".

On this laptop I have Vista but did not buy Office after the trial
period. I save documents in Notepad but noticed that the saved documents have the Open Office logo. What should I do to avoid this problem?.

To do this, all you need to do is go to:
All Programs > Accessories > right click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator

So they are .odf documents? If you don't have Word or OpenOffice installed, what program are you attempting to open them with then?
As advised above, you need a suitable WP program, OpenOffice being the obvious choice.
If you want other recipients using Word to be able to save them, change the defaults so that docs are saved as .doc or .rtf in future.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Normally when you save the file, you can choose what format it will be saved.

Try openoffice or something similar as its free and the same capabilities as word, excel etc

Hello Macman, I was a bit embarrassed asking this question and also forgot to say that I had downloaded Open Office some time ago. (Memory not great!)

Yes, they are .odf documents. Thank you for your advice.
