Non working bathroom light?

Hi there

I moved into my new house approx. six months ago. The bathroom has one of those 'two bulb' behind glass, circular type fittings. One of the bulb units has never worked and I have made do with just one. Yesterday though, the other bulb blew (nothing tripped) and despite replacing the bulb, the light fitting now appears not to work at all.

I am assuming the light fitting is rubbish (blubs seem to blow frequently) but have no idea what to do in terms of getting it working again - will I need to get an electrician out, or is there something simple I can check?

Ta.

If you have no idea, it's safe to assume you need a sparky out to sort it...

I agree with Dippypud. You obviously have no idea about electrics and the chances of you sorting the problem yourself are minimal. the fitting you describe is a very simple one and the problem is unlikely to tax an electrician for very long. If you really must have a go then switch off at the mains and check every connection. There won't be many to check.

If you don't like the light fitting and need to get an electrician out, why not get a new light fitting and while he is checking it, ask him to put the new one in.

Sorry to sound cheecky here but have you checked the bulb in a lamp or other light first before putting it in the bahroom light, sounds obvious but ive been called to many a job where i get another bulb from the tenant and problem sorted, the look on their face with embarasment is quite funny lol

LOL - no offence taken. I have checked the bulb, and it's working in a lamp! I will get my dad to take a look before I call out a spark - he is relatively handy. I actually like the look of the light, but suspect it is just cheap and not very well made!
